Leopold Sportsman Club -Versatile Multi-Functional Spaces

Feb 19, 2025 | ClubHub, Publications

Leopold Sporties is a dynamic club on the Bellarine Peninsula close to Geelong.

Leopold is a rapidly growing suburb with retirees and many young families seeking an open space rural feel but adjacent to a major centre Geelong for work and infrastructure.

The open paddocks around the Club have been developed over the last few years increasing population density and club patronage.

Insite Architect’s master plan is aimed at broadening the venue offers to expand its market appeal.

The Club offers a wide range of activities and opportunities. They have bowls, carpet bowlsand squash sporting facilities on site and have sub-clubs such as angling and golf who use external facilities.

To this, Insite added a large kids play area, an allweather al fresco, separate sports groups lounges, an outdoor activity courtyard and a more entertainment focussed sports lounge.

Covered Outdoor Area
The extended Sports Lounge flows to a large Al Fresco with fireplace, big screen, and separate bar to be appealing to younger patrons. It is acoustically designed to avoid nuisance to a new housing estate adjacent. Insite has focused on creating weatherproof Al Frescos that are useable year-round.

Separate Club Lounge Building
A multi-function space for sub-clubs and smaller events separate from main bistro and function room. It is attractive for events such as wakes, community support groups and sporting clubs. Sub-groups in the club can now have their own discrete lounge/bar space.

Insite created ancillary spaces to enhance the areas adjacent the lounge with a large covered deck providing comfort viewing for bowls, an outdoor function courtyard with a small kids play area.

Insite made the area self-contained with satellite kitchen, beverage tapping and storage.

Equipment is designed for intermittent use and can be turned off when room unused to reduce energy consumption and with drop in post mix separate to main system

This separate building avoided adding volume to an existing large building that would have triggered a requirement to upgrade fire services to the site. New areas designed to be low energy and eliminated a need for gas services due to increasing its expense.
