In exciting news this month for one of our member clubs, the Barwon Valley Golf Club has received a $124,000 grant from the state government for driving range renovations. The club is planning to have all their bays undercover to create further use of their range in the colder months.

The club is one of eight regional golf clubs across Victoria to receive a grant assisting with major upgrades through the Golf Infrastructure Fund. The Minister for Community Sports Ros Spence commented,

“It’s all about giving our community clubs even stronger foundations so more people can have a swing and the future of the game is even brighter at a local level.”

We actively encourage all our member clubs to apply for government grants – if you don’t ask, you don’t get! At CCV we keep our eyes peeled for club related grants to share with you, so make sure you’re checking our weekly ‘Friday Feedback’ email newsletter.

Check out our top tips for applying for government grants below:

1) Get organised

Spend some time going over the Grant Program Guidelines. Make sure you’ve clarified what the eligibility requirements are, what you need to do to apply, and when the deadline for applying is. This sounds simple, but it’s important to get the foundations right.

2) Have clear and simple objectives

According to Business Victoria, when awarding grants in most cases they’ll fund specific projects and not a business or organisation. This means you’ll need to be able to define your project, have it costed and show how it relates to the grant objectives. Keep your application concise and factual you want to stand out amongst the piles of paperwork!

3) Sell your club

Don’t be shy make a compelling argument for your club. Use credible data and research to presenta strong case with clear links between the project, your club and the grant objectives. We know that clubs play a vital role in our communities – make sure your grant application shows thats.
