Reflecting on ANZAC Day across Victoria

Apr 19, 2024 | ClubHub

As the sun rose on April 25, 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers embarked towards the shores of Gallipoli, inscribing their names into the annals of history. Since that fateful day, ANZAC Day has served as a poignant reminder of their sacrifice and the valor of all who have served their nations.

Last year’s dawn service at Frankston RSL offered glimpses of the solemnity and reverence with which ANZAC Day is observed. However, to grasp the magnitude of this commemorative occasion, one must look beyond any particular locale. ANZAC Day transcends boundaries, inviting all Victorians to unite in remembrance.

RSLs across the state are bastions of remembrance, each offering a unique tribute to the fallen. From Melbourne’s bustling streets to the serene landscapes of regional Victoria, these institutions serve as beacons of honour, ensuring the enduring legacy of our servicemen and women.

The RSL Victoria website is a valuable resource, guiding Victorians towards meaningful ways to commemorate ANZAC Day. From dawn services to marches, each event provides an opportunity to pay homage to the fallen and express gratitude to those who continue to serve. It’s a testament to our nation’s enduring spirit of camaraderie and remembrance…

“As the sun rose on 25 April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers rowed towards the shores of Gallipoli and into history. Every year since, Australians have gathered to remember their legacy and that of all who have followed in their footsteps. ANZAC Day is a time to reflect, and remember the service and sacrifices of all who have served gallantly for our country. We encourage all Victorians to take time to commemorate this ANZAC Day.” – RSL Victoria

ANZAC Day is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a solemn promise to never forget. So, as Victorians gather to pay tribute to the heroes of yesterday and today, let us be reminded of the enduring values they fought to uphold—courage, mateship, and sacrifice. Lest we forget.
